Description
This position is based at the South County Regional Library - The South County Regional Library is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation to update the building, expand public spaces, and install an automated materials handling system. The chosen applicant for this position will be assigned to another library location temporarily until project completion.

Duties and Responsibilities
As a Library Assistant, you’ll play a vital front-line role in creating a positive library experience for our patrons. You’ll support daily operations b y assisting with circulation tasks, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring materials are accurately shelved and accessible.
Your responsibilities may include:
+ Checking materials in and out and assisting with holds and returns
+ Issuing and updating library cards and patron records
+ Providing friendly and helpful customer service at the circulation desk
+ Assisting patrons in locating materials and navigating basic library services
+ Sorting, shelving, and shifting library materials to maintain organized collections
+ Operating self-check machines, computers, copiers, and other library equipment
+ Collecting fines and fees and preparing daily deposits
+ Preparing reports, ordering supplies, and ensuring materials are in good condition
To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.
Spanish language skills are a plus.
Education, Experience, Licensing
You must have a mix of education and work experience. This means:
+ A combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED
+ One year of fast-paced, professional customer service or related experience
Preferred:
+ Two or more years of education beyond high school
+ Three or more years of customer service experience
+ Prior library experience
+ A valid Florida Driver’s License

Work Schedule
+ Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly
+ Schedule includes variable hours with evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays
+ Employees may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another library location based on system needs

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
