Job Summary
The Department of Film, Television and Media in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full time new Lecturer III position in the area of fiction production with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2026. We seek an instructor who has proven and significant experience in directing and short or long form media. This is a non-tenure track position, with a University Year appointment period (i.e., runs August 25 through May 24 each year).
A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three (3) courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties.
The initial appointment period will be four (4) years and the appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the college.
The Department of Film, Television, and Media offers a diverse range of courses in screenwriting, cinema and media studies, and film, television, and digital media production. We have both undergraduate and PhD programs of study. The faculty include nationally and internationally recognized teachers, scholars, screenwriters, and filmmakers who are renowned for their accomplishments and impact in their respective fields. The department has its own library which houses an expansive film and screenplay collection and the Screen Arts Mavericks and Makers Collection which holds the personal papers and ephemera of Orson Welles, Robert Altman, John Sayles, Jonathan Demme, and Nancy Savoca, among others.

Responsibilities*
Duties and responsibilities for this Lecturer III position teaching five courses each academic year over the course of two semesters. In addition to your teaching responsibilities, as a Lecturer III, you will also be assigned administrative and/or service duties to meet the needs of the Department of Film, Television, and Media. The additional duties will be serving as an Academic Advisor for the undergraduate program.
Required Qualifications*
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree and either an advanced degree (MA or MFA) or have a minimum of ten years' experience working professionally in media production with a strong record of achievement.
The candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty members across the department regarding curriculum, faculty hiring and many other domains of departmental service and possess a willingness to serve the university and the profession.
Desired Qualifications*
Competitive candidates will have the following experience:
+ Evidence of teaching experience at the university level, including syllabus design, lesson planning, and student mentoring
+ Writing skills that are applicable to various genres of media production
+ A passion for mentoring undergraduate students
+ A vision for growing media production in our department and enhancing curriculum content
+ Experience working with actors and on-screen talent
+ A demonstrated leadership ability in a creative and collaborative environment

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
