Summary:
+ Under the direction of the Laboratory Administrative Director, the Assistant Director and the Administrative Coordinator of Pathology, the Billing Analyst will be responsible for managing all aspects of patient billing, crediting and revenue cycle management for the laboratory. The Billing Analyst will reconcile all charges from the lab system into the hospital financial system. In addition they will prepare all bills required to be sent to outside entities on behalf of the laboratory and to check on invoices sent to the laboratory for payment from outside reference labs. This individual will also be responsible for all communication with the business office concerning patient billing. It is expected that this employee will have a laboratory background and also be proficient in use of hospital and laboratory computer systems. This individual will work closely with Compliance and Revenue Cycle Managers, investigating charges at their request and will comply with all regulatory guidelines in performance of these duties with immediate reporting of any digressions.
Responsibilities:
+ Daily patient billing generated by miscellaneous tests ordered for inpatients and outpatients. This includes making sure the tests are ordered and documented as appropriate.Daily patient billing generated by reflexive testing as guided and requested by all reference labs.Patient billing of all lab work sent out by the Cancer Center or other clinical departments, including reconciliation of orders and results for filing into the patient record.Crediting or reversing charges in the lab and hospital system as directed by lab staff for valid reasons.Performing all manual charge and credit functions from the anatomic laboratory as requested.Charge reconciliation for clinical and anatomic systems. This includes investigation and correction of all items on the charge error work list and checking and recording all differences found in the worksheets provided by Revenue Cycle management.Preparing all monthly charge invoices for any entity that utilizes our laboratory for services and checking to be sure all payments are received i.e. Occupational Health, the County Coroner etc.Reconciliation of all invoices sent to the laboratory from reference laboratories and checking to be sure all patients have been charged as listed.Preparation of lab charge document twice per year for use by lab staff. This is posted so lab staff and supervisors can check the coding and charges for the work performed.Assist the Administrative Director in changes to the lab billing system based on changes in coding as found twice a year.Keep all charges up to date for all reference labs that bill Chester County for services.Communication with Penn Medicine laboratory financial personnel as requested by the lab director.Maintain all billing documents in an orderly, retrievable system.

+ H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
+ Medical Laboratory Scientist degree required and 5+ years Laboratory experience
