    The Maternal Fetal Medicine department at UVA is seeking motivated, compassionate sonographers who are eager to learn and specialize in perinatal ultrasound. Whether you're a recent graduate or a general sonographer with recent OBGYN experience (within the last 2 years) looking to expand into Perinatal imaging, this is a unique opportunity to receive focused training and mentorship in high-risk obstetrics. You'll gain hands-on experience in detailed fetal anatomy, growth assessments, biophysical profiles, Doppler studies, multiple gestation imaging, procedure support, and presenting findings to Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, all in a collaborative environment that prioritizes both learning and patient care.

     

    We invite you to join our team of highly skilled Perinatal Sonographers, in a positive, collaborative, academic environment dedicated to delivering world-class, patient-centered prenatal care in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia.

     

    The Perinatal Sonographer will be responsible for performing low and high-risk perinatal obstetric (OB) ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental guidelines and protocols. The Perinatal Sonographer should have special interest and expertise in prenatal diagnosis and OB ultrasound with the ability to recognize normal and pathological conditions and apply additional modalities as indicated (i.e. Doppler, 3D/4D). Assisting with the following OB procedures: chorionic villus sampling (CVS), Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS), and amniocentesis

     

    Additionally, the Perinatal Sonographer will obtain relevant history via EMR, image according to protocol, review cases with the care team, and generate preliminary reports using structured reporting software.

     

    • Shifts are eight (8) hours or nine (9) hours, typically Monday – Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Or 4 days a week (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

    • No call, no weekends, no nights, and no holidays.

    • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or currently enrolled.

     

    Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in OB/GYN or registry eligible (must pass OB/GYN boards within 6 months of hire).

     

    BLS at time of hire.

     

    Recent, relevant clinical experience in an OB or MFM (fetal) ultrasound setting.

     

    Effective verbal and written communication skills.

     

    Basic computer skills.

     

    Demonstrate knowledge of sonographic assessment of maternal-fetal conditions including a thorough understanding of fetal anatomy, physiology, anomalies, and high-risk maternal factors.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and traveling, driving (occasionally for outreach clinics); reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: Manipulation of ultrasound transducer. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids, and disease.

     

    Position Compensation Range: $31.98 - $51.17 Hourly
