Job Description:
1.0 FTE This position is split across two key phases of development: PHASE 1 During the first half of the school year (thru January 15, 2026), the teacher will be responsible for researching, designing, and developing a high school-level curriculum in Artificial Intelligence (AI), aligned to emerging state and national standards. PHASE 2 Beginning January 20, 2026, the teacher will transition to classroom instruction, delivering the developed course content to students with a focus on foundational AI knowledge and the creation of basic AI models. The position requires the ability to work independently on curriculum planning and collaboratively with district and school personnel. The teacher will foster student engagement in ethical, technical, and applied AI concepts to prepare learners for the future of AI and computer science careers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Curriculum Development (Semester 1) • Research national frameworks, Utah standards, and industry best practices related to AI and computer science education. • Design a semester-long or yearlong AI course, integrating foundations of AI, data concepts, ethical implications, and hands-on model creation. • Collaborate with district specialists, school leadership, and educators to ensure alignment with instructional frameworks and student learning goals. • Develop standards-aligned units, lesson plans, performance assessments, and digital resources for classroom implementation. • Pilot instructional activities and gather feedback from stakeholders to revise and improve materials.
• Ensure the curriculum addresses diverse student needs, including differentiation and accessibility.
Classroom Instruction (Semester 2) • Teach course content aligned to USBE standards in AI Literacy and AI Development. • Instruct students in AI concepts including definitions, data usage, algorithms, training models, and ethical impacts. • Guide students in building micro-models such as rule-based systems, predictive AI, and generative tools. • Implement project-based learning and coding experiences (e.g., chatbot design, AI simulations). • Promote a safe and engaging classroom environment that supports technical exploration and ethical discourse. • Monitor and assess student learning and adjust instruction based on formative data. • Communicate with families and support staff to address student progress, challenges, and achievements. • Maintain accurate records of student performance and participation. • Use educational technologies and AI tools effectively in instruction. • Meet professional responsibilities including planning, PLCs, collaboration, and training. • Administer classroom procedures, school policies, and district evaluation protocols. • Participate in relevant professional learning and serve as a resource for AI integration in other courses.
Preferred Skills:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS • Requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. • Must hold or qualify for a valid Utah Associate or Professional Educator License in a relevant subject area. • Preferred: Computer Science Endorsement or relevant coursework in AI, data science, or software development. Note: If not currently licensed, applicants must obtain an Associate Educator License (AEL) through the Utah State Board of Education. Submit proof of AEL application to be considered.
