    Position Summary:

    As a Senior Financial Analyst at West Marine, you will serve as a trusted finance partner and subject-matter expert, working closely with business leaders to drive strategic decisions. You will develop and maintain sophisticated financial models, deliver actionable insights, and streamline forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes. You’ll lead financial planning for assigned departments, analyze trends, and identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities. Your work will help ensure that West Marine remains financially healthy while continuously improving performance across our retail, e-commerce, and professional business lines. Responsibilities

     

    + Lead the monthly forecast and month-end close processes for your assigned departments, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with company goals.

    + Develop, maintain, and refine complex financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and long-term business strategy.

    + Partner with business stakeholders (Retail, E-Commerce, Operations, etc.) to translate financial data into insights, identifying variances, risks, and opportunities.

    + Analyze cost and performance trends; perform root-cause analyses; recommend actionable solutions to drive cost reduction, margin improvement, and operational efficiency.

    + Own preparation of annual budget for your areas, including defining assumptions, coordinating inputs, and communicating results.

    + Design and deliver reports, scorecards, dashboards, and KPIs to monitor performance, productivity, profitability, and key financial indicators.

    + Lead or support cross-functional projects (systems implementation, process redesign, tool automation) to streamline workflows and improve forecasting/reporting capabilities.

    + Collaborate with teams to allocate, track, and reconcile departmental expenses, ensuring proper internal controls and transparency.

    + Provide financial analysis support for strategic initiatives (new product launches, pricing changes, expansion, etc.).

    + Prepare presentations and synthesize large data sets into executive-level summaries / visualizations for senior leadership.

    + Ad hoc analysis, scenario modeling, and “what-if” financial planning as required.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field required. Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

    + 7+ years of relevant finance / FP&A experience, ideally in a retail, multi-channel, or consumer goods environment.

     

    Technical Skills & Tools

     

    + Advanced proficiency in Excel (complex functions, pivot tables, macros, etc.).

    + Experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting tools / systems (e.g. Hyperion, Essbase, or comparable FP&A tools).

    + Working knowledge of SQL, VBA or similar data-query/manipulation languages is highly desirable. Familiarity with relational databases.

    + Comfortable with data visualization / dashboard tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for translating financial metrics into clear insight.

     

    Analytical / Soft Skills

     

    + Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong attention to detail with a bias toward accuracy.

    + Ability to manage multiple priorities, handle ambiguity, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

    + Strong business acumen; able to identify both risk & opportunity, challenge assumptions, and make recommendations.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders, including senior leadership.

    + Collaborative mindset; ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization.
