JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Responsible to provide general direct and indirect patient care duties, in the clinic setting, under the direct supervision of the audiologist.
+ Answers incoming calls, collects insurance copays where applicable, reviews daily schedules for accuracy, while working directly with patients, staff and physicians.
+ Responsible for the registration information for the patient visit, obtaining patient demographic and third party information with a high degree of accuracy.
+ Responsible for maintaining knowledge of DNV, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Consent for Treatment, HIPAA, Payors, and departmental/System policies and procedures and must be able to explain these to patients and their family members.
+ Document appropriate correspondence, assessments and care in patient’s EMR.
+ Maintenance of office and testing equipment.
+ Performs repairs and maintenance of hearing aid implements and prepares patients for testing.
+ Schedules patient appointments
+ Use interventions and strategies that are appropriate to the population by taking into account culture, language, age, gender and other factors.
+ Maintains inventory and cleans audiologic supplies.
+ Collaborate with the audiologist to ensure functionality of practice operations to provide excellent patient care.
+ Monitor practice schedule for changes or updates.
+ Assist with walk-in and scheduled clinic visits.
+ Monitor environment for compliance with continual accreditation readiness.
+ Guide patients through the health care system and help patients arrive at scheduled appointments on time and prepared.
+ Serve as a patient advocate and liaison, assisting patients in navigation along the care continuum with the goal of facilitating effective quality care and timeliness, resulting in improved patient satisfaction and outcomes.
+ Assist with referrals of patients to the appropriate specialist for diagnosis or treatment.
+ The audiologist technician will not triage patients, will not provide care prior to provider evaluation, will not provide care they are not competent in doing, will not advise patient without direct provider instruction, and will not identify as a “nurse”.
+ Assists with other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years of Hospital admissions or physicians’ office experience preferred or 1 plus years professional work experience required. Experience in customer service or scheduling departments in a healthcare setting highly preferred. Must possess interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and efficiently in a courteous and considerate manner to maintain contact with St. Peters Hospital and St. Peters Health Medical Group and their customers. Impeccable personal honesty, integrity and confidentiality are essential. Knowledge of health care insurance and managed care preferred. Medical terminology preferred.
EDUCATION: High school education or GED preferred. High School diploma preferred. Experience in a hospital or clinic setting preferred.
Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities through ongoing education and on-the-job training. Required to complete and pass annual competency training.
