Position: Radiology Technologist Assistant Department: Clinical Reports To: Xray Department Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt SCOPE The Radiology Technologist Assistant supports radiologic technologists and the patient care team by performing clerical, technical, and patient-related functions. This role is responsible for assisting with patient check-in, preparation for exams, education, and positioning. The Assistant may rotate between imaging sections, support multiple radiology modalities, and provide coverage at various clinical sites as operational needs arise. The role requires adaptability in a fast-paced and changing environment, ensuring high-quality patient care for all patients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES Patient Preparation & Care · Greet and prepare patients for imaging procedures. · Explain procedures clearly and provide education to patients and families. · Assist with positioning patients for exams, ensuring safety. · Safely transfer patients to and from carts, beds, and wheelchairs utilizing proper lifting devices. · Perform basic patient assessment within scope of practice. · Adhere to safety procedures, radiation protection standards, and infection control guidelines. Assisting with Imaging Procedures · Assist technologists with diagnostic imaging exams and procedures. · Set up imaging rooms and ensure proper isolation precautions when required. · Verify patient identity using two patient identifiers before any procedure. · Provide assistance across multiple imaging modalities per department needs. Equipment & Room Management · Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and imaging equipment. · Ensure rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and prepared for exams. · Report equipment malfunctions promptly and follow appropriate reporting protocols Administrative Support · Input patient data accurately into EMR systems and maintain records. · Assist with scheduling and coordinating workflow. · Monitor inventory and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed. Collaboration & Communication · Communicate effectively with patients, families, technologists, and clinical staff. · Interact with coworkers in a manner that promotes teamwork and positive working relationships. · Assist with coordinating work assignments to support smooth workflow across clinics and departments. · Resolve conflicts professionally and maintain composure in a changing work environment. Technical Assistance · Support technologists in troubleshooting minor equipment issues. · Assist with operating imaging equipment under supervision. · Uphold quality assurance standards and follow all regulatory requirements. Other Duties · Rotate within departments and clinical sites as needed for coverage. · Engage in professional and ethical conduct, exhibiting a caring attitude toward patients. · Complete other duties as assigned. · Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education credits (CEUs) for professional development. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: · High School diploma or equivalent · Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred. · Knowledge of medical terminology and basic patient care practices. · CPR certification preferred · Ability to work effectively with adults, geriatrics, adolescents, and pediatric patients. SKILLS Patient Care & Clinical Knowledge · Knowledge of basic anatomy preferred. · Basic understanding of sterile techniques, universal precautions, OSHA standards, and personal radiation protection practices. · Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times. · Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Technical & Administrative Skills · Basic computer skills and familiarity with EMR systems. · Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and meet objectives and deadlines. · Ability to use initiative and independent judgment. · Effective oral and written professional communication skills. Collaboration & Teamwork · Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and vendors. · Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve departmental goals. · Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational demands. · Ability to demonstrate the organization’s mission, vision, and values in all job functions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The Radiology Technologist Assistant must display · Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally; may include assisting with heavier patients or equipment. · Ability to transport patients from carts, beds, and wheelchairs. · Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. · Ability to lift, position, and support patients safely. · Ability to transport mobile imaging equipment.
