    Job Summary

    Summary:

    The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for the daily operations of the echo lab, including equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. This role requires proficiency in performing both simple and complex echocardiograms, as well as emergency and cardiologist-assisted procedures. The sonographer works closely with cardiologists to ensure optimal echocardiography quality and maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times.

    Responsibilities:

    + Perform echocardiograms, including routine, complex, pediatric, stress, and transesophageal studies.

    + Assist with cardiologist-guided procedures such as pericardiocentesis.

    + Maintain equipment, perform routine checks, and report malfunctions promptly.

    + Ensure quality improvement standards are met within the echo lab.

    + Acquire and evaluate diagnostic digital images and hemodynamic data for physician interpretation.

    + Collaborate with cardiologists to obtain the highest quality imaging.

    + Provide compassionate, patient-centered care and clear communication.

    + Maintain compliance with departmental protocols and safety guidelines.

    + Demonstrate adaptability in shifting workload to meet patient needs.

    Education:

    + High School Diploma or GED, required

    + Associate Degree, preferred

    + Graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited Cardiovascular Program, preferred

    Experience:

    + Minimum 1 year of cardiac sonography experience, preferred

    Licensure/Certification:

    + Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS or RCS), required

    + New graduates must obtain registry within 6 months of hire

    Additional Skills:

    + Proficient in operating sonographic equipment

    + Strong knowledge of echocardiography interpretation and techniques

    + Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment

    + Effective communication skills and sensitivity to patient needs

    + Ability to perform in emergency situations and follow departmental procedures

    + Ability to adapt care to meet patient age-specific requirements
