Overview
Repairs, rebuilds, fabricates and performs diagnostic tests on various types of electrical-mechanical equipment used in the transmission and distribution of electric power, both in the shop and in the field. This position will be based out of PPLs System Facilities Center located in Hazelton PA. This is a union position. The successful candidate will a member of IBEW Local 1600.
Responsibilities
1. Assists in inspection, testing, repairing, rebuilding, overhauling and reconditioning various types of electrical-mechanical equipment, either in shop or at job site after blocking out of service by local forces, as required.
2. Assists in inspection, testing, repairing, rebuilding, overhauling, reconditioning, and troubleshooting controls associated with electrical equipment in shop or at job site, as required.
3. Operates shop and portable equipment and machinery required to test, maintain and fabricate devices worked on.
4. Fabricates gaskets, control cables, bus bars; operates hand and small power tools, such: as embossing and stencil machines; assembles and treats hot line tools and switch sticks; uses common types of test equipment, such as: meters, meggers, ductors, TTR testers; and assists in insulation testing of electrical equipment worked on.
5. Assists in special tests or fabrication of specialized equipment, as assigned and directed.
6. Perform an assigned Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.
7. Wear Personal Protective Equipment (supplied flame resistance clothing) when required.
8. Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and make use of assigned safety equipment to prevent accidents.
9. Uses a computer and smartphone for job training and daily job completion.
10. Performs such other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successfully passing the EEI CAST test or its replacement.
2. Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions pertaining to equipment maintained or operated.
3. Ability to read and understand simple electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and physical-mechanical drawings, related to equipment worked on.
4. Knowledgeable in generation of simpler test facilities, such as: meters, meggers, ductors, etc., and ability to properly use equipment and tools needed in performance of duties.
5. Knowledge of provisions of safety rules applicable to work performed.
6. Knowledge and competence in First Aid and resuscitation.
7. Knowledge of safety and human performance tools (self check, peer check, permit and tag system, etc.)
8. Manual dexterity and stamina to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
9. Hold a current Driver's License.

Remote Work
The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
