    The **Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Technician** (ARFF) will work on equipment and systems that are unique to emergency vehicles. The Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Technician (ARFF) is required to apply knowledge to engage in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and testing of emergency response vehicles in accordance with Emergency Vehicle Technician Qualification standards for Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Technician (ARFF). Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Technician (ARFF) must be able to perform physically demanding tasks that may require accessing confined spaces.

    Responsibilities

    + Technician should understand the principles of Out-of-Service Criteria, Inspection, Diagnostic Checks and Maintenance, Road Tests, Performance Testing

    + Technician should understand the design & performance requirements, operational test procedures and delivery data requirements for Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting Vehicles.

    + Technician should understand the principles of service and preventive maintenance to identify the elements of service and maintenance, the frequency of service and preventive maintenance activities and identify areas where maintenance problems are most commonly found.

    + Technician should understand the basic operating principles of the chassis, its components to include the function and application of the following: engine governors, all-wheel drive, pump and roll, quick build up air systems, steering and suspension, built in battery charger, air mechanical brakes, air-over hydraulic brakes, dual agent nozzle & turret, windshield deluge system, winterization system, exhaust system, pressure relief valves, and side slope (SAEJ2180).

    + Technician should understand the troubleshooting and repair procedures: diagnose common problems, interpret schematics/diagrams, retrieve and interpret diagnostic codes, describe use of diagnostic equipment, and understand operational test requirements.

    + Technician should understand the principles of Fire and Water Pump Systems to include: hydraulic theory, mechanical operations and components, controls and instrumentation, over heat protection, pump engagement, pump and roll and interlock systems.

    + Technician should understand the principles Plumbing Systems to include: hose reel and woven jacket hand lines, master drains, windshield deluge system, pressure relief valves, priming systems, water tank, flow switches, interlocks, structural panel, piping, valves, and winterization systems.

    + Technician should understand the principles Foam Systems to include: transfer pumps, flushing systems, instruments and controls, interlocks, check valves, foam tanks, metering valves, proportioning systems, foam agents, eductors, foam pumps, testing foam system, foam concentration range, wind speed, and order of discharge.

    + Technician should understand the principles Nozzle and Turret Systems to include: piercing nozzles, discharge patterns/distances, non-aspirated, aspirated, electric controls, manual overrides, micro-processors, joysticks, auto oscillation, hydraulic controls, actuators, ground sweep systems, under truck nozzles, dual agent turrets, dual rate turrets, bumper turrets, roof turrets, interlock systems, elevated water-way systems, and parallel multiple agent nozzle.

    + Technician should understand the principles Ancillary Agent Systems to include: instruments and controls, refilling agents, caking and fluffing, plumbing, discharge and blowdown systems, check valves, safety valves, pressure regulators, pressure vessels, hydro chemical nozzles, dual agent nozzles, propellant gases, interlocks, flow and range, and performance parameters for clean agent systems.

    + Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM's) and/or Electronic Technical Manuals (ETM's).

    + Technician should understand the basic operating principles of Allison On-Highway transmissions; preventive maintenance support of the Allison Transmission; basic troubleshooting procedures; basic understanding of Allison electronic controls and Allison Transmissions output retarders.

    + Have a working knowledge of how to operate lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Repair, and replace components, engines, transmission, and sub – assemblies.

    + Assist team members in solving maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting.

    + Maintains appropriate government required paperwork and files (Job Packets) necessary for the maintenance and repair of the equipment.

    + Engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.

    + Maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment. Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.

    + Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet NFPA / Government/Army standards when applicable.

    + Ensure all deficiencies and parts are annotated properly on all forms as required by applicable policies and procedures.

    + Perform duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.

    + Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    + High School graduate or equivalent.

    + Minimum two (2) years of experience as an Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Technician

    + Possess and maintain ARFF Level I Certification

    + Possess and maintain a valid state-issued Driver's license and applicable Government/Army license.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Must be familiar with a computer environment and be able to work on a desktop or laptop computer

    + Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    + Ability to follow oral and written directions.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a ARFF Level II within one year of hire

    + Ability to maintain current ASE certifications to meet the requirements for ARFF II level.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
