The Department of Biology (http://biology.syr.edu/) at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the dynamic and broad field of neuroscience. The candidate is expected to complement and build on existing strengths in the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (https://artsandsciences.syracuse.edu/neuroscience/) and Department of Biology, including cell and molecular neurobiology, the biology of aging and neurodegeneration, behavioral and systems neuroscience, neurological disease modeling, and developmental neurobiology. Areas of particular interest include those employing advanced cell-based models to investigate neurophysiology and cell-cell communication in neurodevelopment or neurodegeneration. The successful candidate is expected to develop a rigorous externally funded research program and participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring in the areas of their expertise.
The research environment at Syracuse University is highly collaborative both within and between departments, research centers, and institutes. The candidate will establish their research lab in the Biology Department, housed in the world-class Life Sciences Complex (https://artsandsciences.syracuse.edu/biology/biology-research/biology-research-resources) . In addition to the broad research expertise in the Biology Department at Syracuse University, the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (https://artsandsciences.syracuse.edu/neuroscience/) provides a nexus for all campus neuroscience research, offering intellectual and technical expertise incorporating molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, and cognitive neuroscientific approaches to investigate basic, pre-clinical, translational, and clinical questions to unravel the relationship between brain and behavior. Faculty further benefit from interactions with the Aging Studies Institute (https://asi.syr.edu/) , and the BioInspired Institute (https://bioinspired.syr.edu/) . In addition, the Department of Biology has strong research and educational ties to the adjacent State University of New York Upstate Medical University.
