    POSITION: The Assistant Superintendent is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER PROGRAM.  The classroom is a structured, calm, and highly supportive environment tailored to meet the needs of students who exhibit emotional dysregulation. The program is designed to promote engagement, reduce emotional overload, and support the development of self-regulatory behaviors

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Candidate must possess a Bachelor or Master's of Science degree in Education.

     

    Candidate must possess a valid New York State teaching certificate in Special Education.

     

    Recommended candidates with experience dealing with children with autism.

     

    Candidate must possess fingerprint clearance from New York State Education Department.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Prepares and writes individualized education programs according to the special needs of each student.

     

    Collaborate with administrators, specialists, and colleagues in designing, reviewing, and executing lessons, including participating in collaborative planning.

     

    Develop effective, standards-aligned lessons that support student learning and achievement.

     

    Administer, collect, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data gathered from a variety of assessments on each student.

     

    Reflect regularly on data from student assessments in order to inform one's instruction, modify practices and increase student achievement.

     

    Collaborate with staff to design and execute individualized instructional plans for students with special needs to ensure they achieve academically at high levels.

     

    Progress monitor students' academic performance and IEP goals/objectives to evaluate instructional effectiveness.

     

    Establishes effective rapport with students.

     

    Motivates students to develop skills, attributes, and knowledge necessary for future educational endeavors.

     

    Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

     

    Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.

     

    Establishes effective communication with parents through conferences and other appropriate channels to discuss students' progress.

     

    Maintains professional competence through in-service programs provided by the district & self-selected professional growth activities.

     

    Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations.

     

    Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.

     

    Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

     

    Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program.

     

    Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

     

    Participates in faculty committees.

     

    Assumes any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
