Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile UUV Systems & Structural Generalist to join our advanced underwater vehicle development team. This role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in structural mechanics and a strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software systems integration. You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in structural development while supporting cross-functional teams in autonomy, systems engineering, and customer engagement.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the structural design and development of UUV platforms, including composite and metallic structures.

+ Collaborate with electrical and software teams to ensure seamless system-level integration.

+ Support FEA modeling and simulation using tools such as ANSYS to validate structural integrity under operational conditions.

+ Act as a customer-facing technical expert, providing guidance and support during design reviews, testing, and deployment.

+ Contribute to the development and refinement of autonomous system architectures, with a working understanding of autonomy principles.

+ Provide cross-disciplinary support to mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.

+ Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical documentation.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

+ 5+ years of experience in UUV or underwater systems development.

+ Proven expertise in structural mechanics, including composite materials and FEA.

+ Familiarity with autonomy systems and their integration into UUV platforms.

+ Experience with ANSYS or similar simulation tools.

+ Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and stakeholders.

+ Ability to support and collaborate across departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Master’s degree in composites or structural engineering is a strong plus.

+ Experience in DoD or maritime defense programs.

+ Knowledge of system engineering processes and lifecycle development.

+ Hands-on experience with prototype testing and validation.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
