    Overview

     

    Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC & Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health system member hospitals, as well as to independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. The department is a leader in process improvement (LEAN/Six Sigma), which has resulted in a renovated space designed for workflow efficiency.     The Variant Curator assesses and classifies variants detected using several Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms to determine diagnosis, prognosis, and risk of developing human diseases. They work closely with Lab Technologists, Molecular Pathologists, Geneticists, Bioinformaticians, and the clinical laboratory team to interpret sequence variants and to help draft clinical reports for patients who are undergoing testing for both germline and somatic variants.

     

    This is a full-time, 40-hour/week onsite position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at our Lebanon, NH location. Flexibility in working hours is required for this position.

    Responsibilities

    * Assist in classifying variant pathogenicity based on ACMG Guidelines.

    * Use public databases and in-silico tools to determine the impact of the variant on protein function.

    * Review scientific literature to identify and curate case-based and population based evidence for variant pathogenicity.

    * Assist in drafting accurate and meaningful clinical reports for our patients.

    * Collaborate with our Clinical Bioinformatics team to incorporate improved algorithms and databases into existing clinical analyses pipelines.

    * Work with clinicians as a laboratory resource for variant classification and interpretation.

    * Collaborate on new and ongoing clinical research studies

    * Participates in the teaching of residents, medical students, and other trainees. Participates in the supervision of genetic counseling students. Assists with data entry and maintenance of the department database.

    * Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    * Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or the equivalent in education and experience required.

    * Excellent communication skills required.

    * Pay Range:$75,899.20/Yr. - $117,644.80/Yr. (Based on 40 hours per week, otherwise pro rata)
