    Job Description Summary

    The Director of the Bispecific Release by Immune T cells for Engagement (BRITE) program will lead a team focused on the development of CAR T cells engineered to secrete bispecific molecules that engage diverse targets, including tumor-associated antigens, stromal components, tumor-associated macrophages/fibroblasts, NK Cells, and other immune cell subsets. This role supports the Director of the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies (CCI) in overseeing a laboratory division dedicated to integrating cutting-edge technologies, gene delivery systems—such as lipid nanoparticles and other non-viral vectors— and bispecifics into T cell platforms. The Director will also spearhead efforts to implement innovative cell engineering strategies and next-generation immunotherapeutic approaches to enhance antitumor activity and enable clinical translation.

    Job Responsibilities

    + Responsibilities entail the management of a multidisciplinary team, providing guidance and support to postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and supervising research staff. This involves overseeing research progress and goals, as well as contributing to strategic planning initiatives led by the Director of CCI. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for initiating and overseeing research studies and conducting thorough data analysis. They will ensure the timely planning and execution of projects, including the preparation, review, and approval of reports, presentations, scientific papers, and grant applications. The Director will present data at local, national, and international meetings, monitor progress and timelines related to projects, and provide updates to the Director of CCI.

    Qualifications

    + Master of Science, 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. PhD Preferred

    + Expertise and knowledge in cancer immunology and immunotherapy.

    + Extensive background in cellular and molecular immunotherapies, T cell- and macrophage-based therapies, CAR-T cells, cell and gene therapy, signaling pathways, checkpoint blockade, immunostimulatory monoclonal antibodies and bispecific molecules, and lipid nanoparticle technology.

    + Proficient in macrophage and T-cell biology, multiparametric flow cytometry and sorting, preclinical efficacy assessment (in immune deficient and syngeneic mouse models), in vivo toxicity and biodistribution studies, and local and systemic immunotherapeutic combinations.

    + Extensive experience with cell culture methods, viral and non-viral transduction techniques, various gene editing modalities, immunological (proliferation, suppression, and cytotoxicity) assays, cell biology analytical techniques, ELISA assays, Immunohistochemistry assays, CRISPR engineering.

    + Significant contributions to preclinical and translational research.

    + Strong publication record and substantial number of citations.

    + Experience in collaborations with industry partners leading to clinical trials.

    + Strong leadership and mentorship skills, managing interdisciplinary teams.

    + Experience in project design, budget management, and securing research funding through grants.

    + Active participation in manuscript and grant writing, strategic planning, and data analysis.

    + Experience in presenting research findings at local, national, and international scientific meetings.

    + Strong interpersonal skills and a team player with a positive attitude.

    + Results-oriented, exhibits good judgment and problem-solving skills with a strong desire to contribute to the programmatic mission

    Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
