Open Rank - Assistant, Associate, Professor - 37782 Faculty

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) in the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking faculty members who will strengthen our presence in artificial intelligence (AI). We are particularly interested in hiring researchers whose work in AI overlaps with one or more areas of clinical focus for our partner health systems including cancer, cardiology, neuroscience, orthopedics, radiology, and transplant. Successful applicants will have deep methodological expertise in AI and machine learning and will lead research programs that develop and apply computational approaches in one or more of the clinical focus areas with the potential to achieve measurable benefits to health care. The DBMI and the CU Anschutz campus environments are ideally built for development and translation of work in this space through its strong connections to health systems (Children's Hospital Colorado, UCHealth, the Colorado VA) as well as the University of Colorado Cancer Center, Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine, the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and other campus units focused on translation of data, models, and methods to practice. The ideal candidate will seek to lead studies that close the loop from lab to clinical care and back, mentor trainees, and help establish resources that enrich the campus environment. The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Develop novel methods or strategies to apply AI, computation, and technology to medicine

+ Individually and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, obtain external funding and publish impactful manuscripts.

+ Mentor pre- and post-doctoral non-clinical and clinical trainees.

    - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine offers a mature, campus-integrated environment for translating complex data to the point of care. DBMI is the academic home for over 30 tenure-track faculty who use genome-scale biology, multiscale modeling, mathematical physiology, simulation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, data integration, and mathematical and predictive analytics to marry disparate but related aspects of the campus's clinical and research portfolios. Faculty in DBMI are supported by departmental investments in research administration, business operations, software engineering, and grant and scientific writing teams. The department has established promotion and tenure expectations that recognize real-world impact through multiple paths, including developing new technologies, informatics operations requiring independent intellectual contributions, and publication of original research. The Anschutz Medical Campus includes a vibrant and entrepreneurial research community with multiple areas of excellence and translational impact. There are many opportunities on campus to translate data-intensive research advances into improved care. The DBMI is co-located on the Anschutz Medical Campus with the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. DBMI enjoys collaborations with numerous centers and units on campus. For example, the CU Anschutz Center for Combat Medicine and Battlefield (COMBAT) Research has been created to solve the U.S. military's toughest medical challenges by leading high-impact research, education, and innovation, turning military medical research gains into better health care for all. The Anschutz Campus is home to Colorado's only NIH-supported Comprehensive Cancer Center (the University of Colorado Cancer Center) and Clinical and Translational Science Award hub (the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, CCTSI). The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine houses the region's largest biobank, which is one of the nation's largest academic biobanks. Research into women's health and sex differences is a key theme in the department that enjoys strong connections with the Ludeman Family Center for Women's Health Research. The campus has invested significantly in an enterprise health data warehouse collecting electronic health record data from 15 hospitals and dozens of clinics for research. This warehouse integrates electronic health record data for millions of active patients, more than 800 clinics, and state and national public health databases for research. The availability of health records for research through Health Data Compass, large-scale biobanking and genomics through the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine, and close collaboration with the University of Colorado Cancer Center provide ideal positioning. This setting is complemented by translational support from the CCTSI, enabling studies that move from protocol to implementation on clinically meaningful timelines and at scale. The strong connections between CU and UCHealth and Children's Hospital Colorado provide ideal conditions to identify problems of clinical and operational importance, develop solutions, and translate them to practice. Faculty benefit from adult and pediatric clinical partnerships. The result is a setting where rigorous science can make measurable, near-term contributions to clinical care while advancing the broader field of biomedical informatics. We have AMAZING benefits and offerexceptional amounts of holiday, vacation and sick leave! The University of Colorado offers an excellent benefits package including:There are many additional perks & programs with the CU Advantage (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6582736&targetURL=https://advantage.cu.edu/) .
