Position Overview

The ideal candidate is hands-on, entrepreneurial, and has experience growing companies.

The Director of Finance & Growth will report directly to the CEO and oversee all aspects of the company finances including AR/AP, payroll, budgeting, compliance, and financial analysis. Beyond finance, this role will play a key part in driving strategic decisions and guiding our fast-growing team toward operational excellence.

Black Rocket is an established enrichment and education company with over 20 years of success. We partner with over 300 schools nationwide and have taught over 400,000 students in afterschool and summer settings. Our company is entering the next stage of our growth and seeking the right person to help us scale to the next level.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Ensure clean books by managing the bookkeeper in day-to-day accounting, payroll, and financial reporting

+ Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning

+ Build workflows that reduce errors and improve efficiency across finance and operations

+ Monitor bank accounts and credit cards for unusual activity

+ Monthly reconciliations of all financial accounts

+ Prepare profit and cost analysis reports for products and services

+ Liaison with other Directors to ensure costs management and serve as the go-to financial contact for team questions

+ Partner with leadership to strengthen operations and performance

+ Counsel CEO on strategy, growth, and potential partnership opportunities

+ Meet with Accountant as needed to prepare estimated taxes

+ Conduct competitive analysis and explore new market opportunities

+ Track progress against company and departmental goals

+ Oversee compliance and HR including labor laws, state registrations, and unemployment claims

Requirements

+ Ability to work in-office in central New Jersey 2 days per week.

+ 8+ years of finance management experience.

+ Proven experience scaling startups, small businesses, or mid-sized companies.

+ Strong people and project management skills.

+ Highly organized, proactive, and able to prioritize independently.

+ Solid expertise in accounting systems, controls, and financial software.

+ Experience with ERP, API-integrated systems, and analytics tools.

+ Professional, clear, and positive communication style.

+ Education/enrichment industry experience is a plus, but not required.
