    Suffolk University i nvites Suffolk full-time faculty to apply for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor and D irector of F irst- Y ear W riting , beginning J ul y 1, 202 6 .

     

    We seek a candidate with an appropriate terminal degree in a discipline represented within Suffolk’s College of Arts and Sciences, where substantial expertise in first-year writing and composition is demonstrated through the candidate’s teaching, administrative experience, and/or research profile. The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenure-track professor within the home department appropriate to their field of professional expertise.

     

    The director will administer the day-to-day activity of an established First-Year writing program, which runs over 100 sections annually . The s uccessful candidate will provide idea leadership and support for curriculum development and delivery, particularly in relation to first-year experience, retention, and AI. The s uccessful candidate will serve on college , university, and departmental committees, and will provide expertise in composition pedagogy to faculty and students across disciplines. The director will also be expected to maintain an ongoing program of research consistent with the expectations of their home department. The teaching load is 2 / 1 and will consist of first-year composition courses with potential opportunities to teach other first-year and upper-level undergraduate courses within the candidate’s area of expertise . Service and leadership responsibilities include organizing workshops and symposia geared toward composition pedagogy, overseeing placement in writing courses, assess ing and evaluating the writing program , collaborat ing with leaders in the college and university on retention effort s , and representing the writing program in c lose collaborations with other schools, departments and programs. Additional d esirable areas of expertise may include (but are not limited to) curricular assessment, developmental writing, digital literacies, first-year experience, writing across the disciplines, international and multilingual literacies, first-generation college writing, experiential learning, and student success.
