    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    The Staff Scientist will play a key role in advancing biomedical research within the Neuroscience Department at the University of Rochester by leading experiments that bridge Alzheimer’s and cancer biology. This position requires independent design, execution, and analysis of complex molecular and cellular studies, as well as oversight of animal models and laboratory operations. By applying expertise in molecular biology, animal colony management, and data interpretation, the Staff Scientist will ensure high-quality, impactful research that supports the Department’s mission of scientific discovery and innovation.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Design, develop, and execute biomedical research experiments (e.g., cell culture, qPCR, ELISA, IHC/IF, IB, and other laboratory procedures) to support cancer and Alzheimer’s research initiatives.

    + Manage animal colonies, including genotyping, husbandry procedures, and conducting transcardial perfusions and tissue dissections to support ongoing research projects.

    + Collect, document, and analyze research data using statistical software (e.g., Prism, ImageJ), and contribute to scientific analysis, interpretation, and publications.

    + Ensure all research protocols and laboratory practices comply with University policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

    + Oversee daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, supply management, and coordination of research activities.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Doctoral degree (PhD) Required

    + PhD in Biomedical Sciences from a U.S. higher education (university) institution. Preferredr

    + 2 years of relevant postdoctoral training or combination of education and experience Required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    + Demonstrated expertise in Alzheimer’s and Cancer biology research, with a record of publications in peer-reviewed English-language journals.

    + Prior experience working with Alzheimer’s and Cancer mouse models.

    + Strong background in molecular biology techniques (IHC/IF, PCR, ELISA, Western blotting).

    + Experience managing animal colonies, performing genotyping, conducting mouse transcardial perfusions, and tissue dissections.

    + Proficiency in statistical analysis and research software (e.g., Prism, ImageJ).
