Summary:
Meta’s Public Policy Team is looking for a Safety Policy Manager to help manage the Safety Policy team’s legislative efforts.The candidate will have the skills and experience to review and analyze online safety legislation, with particular expertise in youth related legislation. In this role they will assess the meaning and implications of this legislation for the company and the industry, develop and help execute effective responses, and propose legislative options to our most pressing youth-related issues. They also will be able to develop the supporting rationale and messaging for advocacy.The candidate for this role should have a proven background and interest in youth online safety and well-being, particularly in legislative and regulatory matters. They will have the proven ability to evaluate the implications of legislation and regulation on our apps and services, specific features and functionality, and our company. They also will have the proven ability to engage collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including our product, program and legal teams, on the same and to work with external stakeholders when needed.Candidates should be dedicated, detail-oriented, strategic, resourceful, analytical, as well as knowledgeable about technology, technology policy issues, and related legislation and regulation. They also should believe in the positive value of technology. Candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with a variety of audiences including policy experts, legal experts, engineers, business colleagues, and company leadership. Candidates should write clearly, succinctly, and with the required detail for understanding and decision-making.
Required Skills:
Safety Policy Manager, Legislation Responsibilities:
1. Review, analyze and advise on online safety legislation – in particular, youth-related legislation covering a wide range of issues. Such work will include the development of suggested amendments to the legislation, when appropriate, and the rationale that supports any positions taken with regard to youth-related legislation
2. Evaluate the implications of youth-related legislation and regulation on our apps and services, specific features and functionality, and our company
3. and share learnings with the relevant policy, legal, product, and operational teams
4. Assist our public policy team in conveying the implications of proposed legislation to our apps and services (and the tech industry) to policymakers, thought leaders, advocates and civil society
5. Consider youth-related legislation within local, national, regional, and global contexts and provide insights and analysis to help shape our legislative and policy strategy, locally and globally. Support the ongoing development of our youth legislative strategy

6. J.D. and Bachelor’s degree
7. 5+ years of experience in technology safety and policy issues and legislative review as well as an understanding of applicable regulatory and self-regulatory regimes
8. Knowledge of Meta apps, features, platform, and policies and operations, as well as knowledge of the online safety landscape
9. Demonstrated experience with communication, analytic, organizational, and writing skills
10. Demonstrated experience working in a deadline-focused environment, think and move quickly, juggle many different projects at once, work with multiple teams, find pragmatic and creative solutions to legislative, regulatory and business issues, provide concise and focused advice, and make sound judgments
11. Willingness to travel and to handle calls during different time zones

$151,000/year to $216,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
