Animal Surgical Technician

Responsibilities:

+ Perform duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals, such as feeding, caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment, and maintaining inventory and animal identification records.

+ Perform cleaning and sanitation of the animal facility and equipment.

+ Ensure biosafety and biosecurity of the animals.

+ Partner with preclinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-operative care, and monitoring of animal studies.

+ Provide technical support in areas such as production operations, maintenance, safety testing, process improvement, or product development.

+ Use schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment, or systems.

+ Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulae and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations.

+ Suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.

+ Work as a seasoned individual contributor under limited supervision, providing assistance and training to lower-level employees.

+ Run minor projects, including performing tests, interpreting data, and developing reports.

+ Perform technical activities requiring considerable judgment and may have ownership of minor projects.

+ Independently propose solutions to problems for supervisor review.

+ Communicate typically with internal contacts to obtain and provide technical information on matters of moderate importance.

+ Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within the job area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

+ 3+ years of surgical experience

+ Certified Vet Tech or research experience in a surgery tech capacity

+ 1+ years of previous anesthesia experience

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.50/hr.
