    JOB TITLE: Supervisor, Studio

     

    DEPARTMENT: Studio

     

    REPORTS TO: Director, Studio Programs

     

    CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

     

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: Project-Based

     

    SCHEDULE: 40 Hours/Week, Wednesday-Sunday

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    Under the guidance of the Director, Studio Programs, the Supervisor, Studio position supports department organization through supervising, training, and supporting the department’s Studio Assistant staff and planning all department programs and staffing calendars and scheduling. This position helps visitors find personal meaning in art by teaching high-quality single and multi-session art-making classes and workshops at the museum and off-site locations.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Recruit, mentor, develop, train, and supervise the Studio Assistant team to achieve the strategic objectives and the department's present and future needs.

    + Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting, feedback and development.

    + Perform time and labor software management duties.

    + Support department organization by scheduling, tracking, and maintaining statistics and documentation on a robust schedule of onsite and offsite public art-making workshops and communicate relevant information internally.

    + Facilitate art-making classes and workshops at the museum and offsite locations.

    + Collaborate with department staff to organize and schedule off-site studio programs.

    + Create and maintain studio programs staff schedule and calendar.

    + Partner with marketing & communications department to write and submit copy for program marketing deadlines.

    + Maintain written department policies and procedures as assigned.

    + Prepare and maintain forms, documents, and materials for studio programs and events.

    + Assist with purchasing and tracking supplies, equipment and maintenance in procurement system and act as a liaison for Purchasing and Accounting.

    + Foster, promote, and support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) through the DIA values, active listening, embracing difference, and engaging with empathy to promote a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Associates degree in related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Three (3) years of experience in administration or scheduling required . One (1) year of supervisory experience required. Experience working in a museum or non-profit preferred. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    + Must possess leadership skills and the ability to lead a diverse team to meet strategic goals supporting the museum strategy and vision.

    + Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally.

    + Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience.

    + Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changes in priorities based on operational need.

    + Ability to provide information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally through talking or writing.

    + Must have demonstrated active listening and communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly and professionally.

    + Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.

    + Must be able to travel independently within Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties.

    + Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution, and recommend appropriate course of action.

    + Ability to work regular weekend, evening, and holiday hours.

    + Must be proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office 365.

    + Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

    + Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
