    Job Description

    POSITION TITLE: Liaison: Regulate & Return Support Staff

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelors Degree in Education or a relatable field such as Psychology or Social Work preferred, with the minimum of a high school diploma. Previous experience working with students preferred.

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

    Type of Authority: Staff

     

    Reports to: Building Principal

     

    Consults with: Principal, Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Parents, Staff, General Public

    SCOPE OF POSITION:

    This position will provide skill and therapeutic based interventions to address needs of students in the educational setting. The R & R staff will provide intervention for students with significant social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs. Primary duties include implementing individual behavior plans, working in collaboration with the special education teacher and other staff to assist with the delivery of specialized instruction, skill instruction and data collection.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    1. Knowledge of appropriate behavioral interventionist strategies and positive behavior supports.

    2. An awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

    3. Knowledge of technology support related to effective data collection.

    4. Skill in effectively assessing environmental variables that influence behavior

    5. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in QBS-approved crisis management and physical intervention training.

    6. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, families, and school personnel.

    7. Ability to effectively communicate with educational stakeholders

    8. Ability to perform general clerical duties including maintaining accurate records and preparing education reports

    9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with all students and adults

    10. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in Life Space Crisis Intervention training.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Participate in the assessment of students’ behavior through interview, observations, consultations, and communication with various school personnel.

    2. Work as a collaborative team with other school staff members to develop appropriate and positive behavioral interventions.

    3. Assist and support in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individual students or small groups of students; reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.

    4. Assist students in modeling appropriate skills and behaviors

    5. Assist in the implementation of de-escalation and crisis intervention.

    6. Commit to maintaining a climate that fosters a safe and caring environment and connection to school.

    7. Utilize skills in problem solving and assessment for intervention to support teachers in meeting the social/emotional and instructional needs of all students.

    8. Assist students in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate in school, including academic and social/emotional supports.

    9. Supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, and nurturing environment.

    10. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or human resources.

    11. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

    The Dubuque Community School District reorganized in the early 1960's with the surrounding rural area and now serves a population of over 70,000. Presently, we have a student enrollment of approximately 10,120 students. A total staff of 2,522 employees (including 959 certified teachers, counselors and nurses) is presently employed by the Dubuque Community School District. The geographical area the Dubuque District serves is over 245 square miles and the District provides school bus transportation approximately 5,000 students each day.

     

    Eighteen school buildings are utilized to house our educational program: two high schools, one alternative learning center, three middle schools, and twelve K-5 elementary schools. Other facilities are provided for transportation, maintenance, cafeteria, and administration.

     

    Dubuque Public Schools provide a basic curriculum designed to meet the educational needs of children. Special programs include Title I, Learning Resource Services, Special Education, Talented and Gifted, and At-Risk.
