    The General Motors Global Tax and Customs department is a team of approximately 200 people focused primarily on GM’s strategic and most complex tax and trade matters. We manage relationships with numerous external partners who perform many of our routine tax functions.     Overview of Your Role:

    The Senior Tax Technologist is responsible for supporting GM Tax Staff’s objectives through systems and related process improvements for tax, including indirect, income and customs, and reports directly to the Senior Manager – Global Tax Solutions. This Senior analyst is a business process improvement and technology individual responsible for day-to-day management of tax process and technology activities which may include providing the business side/tax requirements to systems implementers, representing Tax during tax integration with other finance systems and evaluating and improving current processes and data flows related to Tax.

    Your Responsibilities:

    • Own and lead the implementation of our global Indirect tax engine to automate indirect tax calculations globally

    • Ability to work independently to implement and maintain new tax configurations in Tax Engine

    • Ability to lead discussions with IT teams to design the integration between Tax Engine and other ERP's like SAP

    • Coordinate timelines, resources, and testing for tax automation initiatives

    • Ability to mentor junior analysts and interns, providing coaching and guidance on difficult system issues

    • Analyze transaction data to ensure correct indirect tax calculation and reporting.

    • Ability to perform tax data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes using tools like KNIME

    • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and KPIs for tax compliance and decision-making using tools like Power BI.

    • Identify opportunities to enhance tax compliance through system enhancements.

    • Support indirect tax compliance audits with system and data documentation.

    • Act as a liaison between the tax, IT, Third part implementation partners and finance departments.

    • Communicate requirements to developers and ensure accurate delivery of tax functionalities

    • Document system configurations, business processes, and SOPs

    • Track and troubleshoot tax engine or ERP issues related to indirect tax.

    Required Technical and Professional Qualifications:

    • Minimum 4 years of experience working in public accounting and/or large corporate tax departments

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, finance, accounting, business, MIS or a related discipline

    • Hands on experience implementing SABRIX/OneSource(preferred), Vertex or other indirect SaaS Tax products

    • Demonstrated experience collaborating with global indirect tax advisory and compliance teams.

    • Strong tax technical skills in US sales and use tax, global VAT/GST, and global e-invoicing requirements

    • Experience with ERP systems like SAP and knowledge of SAP modules MM, SD and FI

    • Strong project management and communication skills.

    • Strong skills in Excel, SQL, or data visualization tools like Power BI

    • Strong skills of process automation tools like KNIME/Alteryx

    **Location: Hybrid.** This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Detroit Renaissance Ctr - Global HQ Detroit, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
