    This position will be a part-time position available, in Picatinny Arsenal, for a SME Gunsmith with the Armament Technology Facility (ATF). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of firearm mechanics and be able to perform a variety of tasks, including repair, maintenance, customization, and assembly of firearms. As a Gunsmith, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and functionality of firearms for our customers.

     

    What will you be doing?

     

    This position will be a key member of DEVCOM AC.

    Duties include:

    + Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in firearms, including malfunctioning parts and worn-out components. Perform routine maintenance to ensure proper function and safety.

    + Oversight of Small and Medium Caliber weapons and munitions test and evaluation facilities and the R&D gunsmith shop.

    + Plan and lay out complete projects characterized by the need for unique instrumentation requirements, fixtures, set-ups, and equipment to meet specific test requirements, as well as complex permanent facilities and equipment with the capabilities for meeting a wide range of test objectives.

    + Provide advice to R&D engineers concerning the feasibility and adaptability of instrumentation, test sites, equipment and personnel to successfully meet the programs’ requirements.

    + Read and interpret blueprints or technical drawings to fabricate or modify parts. Occasionally design custom firearm components using CAD software (if applicable).

    + Design, modify, and fabricate special purpose experimental equipment, fixtures, and stands for evaluating weapons, munitions and components.

    + Support ammunition and weapons branches as subject matter expert by traveling to various test sites to evaluate projects and malfunction investigations.

     

    What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?

    This position will require the following skillsets and experience:

    + High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in Gunsmith Training and Rifle/Pistol Instruction are a plus.

    + Proven experience as a Gunsmith, with a minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience.

    + Strong knowledge of firearm mechanics, parts, and repair techniques.

    + Ability to use specialized tools and equipment, such as manual and CNC machines or firearm-specific tools.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

    + Excellent organizational and communication skills.

    + Must be US Citizen.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license.

    + High attention to detail and precision in all work performed.

    + Ability to safely work independently and as part of a team.

    + Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
