Job Title: Civil Engineer (EIT or PE)Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and creative Project Civil Engineer for our downtown Durham office. You will work in a highly collaborative engineering and design-based environment with a team of in-house experts and support staff from multiple disciplines. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse project types including campus design, urban design, multi-family development, commercial/retail development, and large-scale master-planning. Essential functions include civil design, calculations, analysis, and documentation of site design (grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and erosion control), construction observation, and administrative tasks like project planning, scheduling, and QA/QC.
Responsibilities
+ Perform analysis and design of civil engineering components under the supervision of the Project Manager.
+ Conduct civil design calculations for grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site design.
+ Prepare and write various reports and technical memorandums.
+ Develop design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil engineering design software.
+ Conduct QA/QC of drawings and specifications.
+ Manage small projects and components of major projects.
+ Review work of Designers, Engineering Interns, and CAD Techs.
+ Perform construction observation and administrative duties, including site visits, field reports, shop drawing reviews, and responding to contractor RFIs.
+ Assist in additional duties as assigned by a Project Manager or Studio Leader.
Essential Skills
+ Registered Professional Engineer
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
+ Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
+ Strong commitment to collaborative design processes
+ Ability to visualize projects through both hand and digital graphic techniques
+ Sound judgment and the ability to defend decisions and methodologies
+ Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles related to site development
+ Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes and permitting requirements
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software
+ Excellent writing, communication, and drawing skills
+ Ability to manage tasks and maintain project schedules
+ Possession of a driver's license is preferred

Work Environment
The work environment is an office setting with approximately 20-25 people. The office is described as nice and quiet, providing a conducive space for collaboration and concentration.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
