    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    + High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

    Experience

    + A minimum of four (4) years of experience in track and structures maintenance, or track and structures maintenance training or experience as an instructor in a closely related field

    Certification/Licensure

    + N/A

    Preferred

    + Associate’s degree, or vocational or technical school degree in track and structures maintenance, track and structures maintenance training, or related field

    Mission Essential Designation:

    + In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

    Summary

    The Track and Structures Training Instructor (TRSTI) is responsible for developing, implementing, presenting and recording required track and structures (TRST) maintenance courses. The training also includes courses related to the tasks of track equipment operation, track repair, track inspection and structural repair. The incumbent instructs in both classroom and field on-site locations, using both theoretical and practical training methods, evaluates and reports on the students’ progress throughout the course of instruction.

    Essential Functions

    + Develops, implements and revises as necessary, a comprehensive training program for the Authority's Track and Structures Maintenance Department to ensure employees receive a quality training curriculum.

    + Conducts classroom and practical maintenance training for all equipment operators, inspectors, repairers and supervisory personnel. Demonstrates with applicable test instrumentation correct maintenance test procedures and evaluates students’ performance to ensure quality work is performed.

    + Certifies that employees have successfully completed required training programs and are qualified to operate specific equipment and/or complete tasks required for the performance of their assigned duties.

    + Consults with department personnel to determine the effectiveness of the training and its compliance with required maintenance procedures. Makes and implements appropriate additions or deletions to the training program using required Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)’s practices and processes to ensure compliance and increase quality service.

    + Maintains current knowledge of modifications to the department's equipment and implements these changes into the training program in a timely manner.

    + Supervises trainees to ensure compliance with WMATA’s directives, standard operating procedures (SOP), safety and operating rules, time accountability, and complaint resolution.

    + Prepares and maintains training aids, charts, view-graphs, equipment simulators and mock-ups. Coordinates the availability of classroom space, mock-ups and visual aid equipment at the time and place of specific training programs to keep employees fully engaged.

    + Medical examination including a drug and alcohol screening (for safety sensitive positions)

    + Review of a current motor vehicle report
