The Cannabis Expungement Board (CEB) is filling multiple Staff Attorneys. These positions will play a key role in creating and executing the legal and procedural framework for determining eligibility for expungement of criminal records.
They will conduct legal research and investigations, and review and analyze eligible cases to support the preparation of a formal recommendation of cases for review by the CEB. They will assist and present recommendations regarding expungement and/or resentencing on cases to the Board and may also represent CEB at District Court hearings regarding expungement or resentencing.
Classification, Staff Attorney 1 vs Staff Attorney 2, and salary will be determined based on selected finalist's qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Staff Attorney 1
+ JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
+ Current license or *eligibility for licensure and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota. (Note to license eligible applicants: Must possess current license prior to start date with the Board. Please include information regarding licensure status in your cover letter.)
+ One (1) year of experience in a legal setting, which may include internships, externships, clerkships, clinics, or volunteer activities.
Staff Attorney 2
+ JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
+ Current license and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
+ Three (3) years of experience as a criminal law attorney.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
+ Current license and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
+ Experience in and working knowledge of criminal or expungement law.
+ Experience calculating or working with criminal history scores and felony sentencing.
+ Working with individuals impacted by the criminal justice system.
+ Courtroom experience.
+ Strong writing and presentation skills.
