Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Technologist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and maintaining patient result records. This role provides an opportunity to work closely with cancer patients, contributing positively during a challenging time.
Responsibilities
+ Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and reporting.
+ Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house.
+ Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.
+ Perform specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
+ Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment.
+ Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
+ Adhere to quality control policies and document QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
+ Record lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.
+ Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis at least once a year.
+ Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differential.
+ Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment and record results.
+ Process specimens for send-out testing.
+ Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or notify a supervisor.
+ Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from acceptable performance levels.
+ Verify critical results and document accurate follow-up.
+ Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure viability before using in patient testing.
+ Prepare reagents, stains, and chemical solutions.
+ Restock laboratory area as needed.
+ Process in-house and incoming results for charting in a timely manner.
Essential Skills
+ ASCP/AMT Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
+ Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program resulting in an associate degree.
+ Ability to work within CLIA regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working in oncology labs is highly beneficial.
+ Ability to manage and work with a team of up to 26 individuals.
Work Environment
This position offers a Monday to Friday schedule with start times between 7am and 9am, and end times between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. No weekends or nights are required. The role involves working at multiple locations, and must be willing to travel to other specified locations as needed.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suffolk, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
