Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Technologist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated MLT/MT to join our laboratory team. This role involves performing a variety of complex laboratory tests and procedures to provide accurate data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. You will be working in a specialized oncology lab, providing meaningful contributions to patient care.
Responsibilities
+ Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient result records.
+ Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house.
+ Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.
+ Perform specimen analysis for Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology.
+ Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as required.
+ Adhere to quality control policies, document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
+ Record proper lot numbers of controls, calibrators, and reagents.
+ Participate in proficiency testing by conducting sample analysis and reporting results annually.
+ Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials.
+ Conduct microscopic examinations of urinary sediment and record results accurately.
+ Process specimens for send-out testing and follow laboratory policies for acceptable test performance levels.
+ Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance or report to supervisor.
+ Document corrective actions for deviations from laboratory standards.
+ Verify and document critical results with accurate follow-up.
+ Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure viability before use.
+ Prepare reagents, stains, and chemical solutions as needed and restock laboratory areas.
+ Chart patient results in a timely manner.
Essential Skills
+ ASCP or AMT Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
+ Proficiency as a generalist in a CLIA-certified lab.
+ Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, typically resulting in an associate degree.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in an oncology lab is advantageous.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment
This position offers a weekday shift, Monday to Friday from 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM, with no weekend work required. Travel to other locations in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk Harbor View, and Hampton may be required to fill in as needed. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Williamsburg, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $37.00/hr.
