    Location Description

    Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products.

    Responsibilities

    **POSITION SUMMARY** **:** The Utility Technician/Mechanic is responsible maintaining all PMs on HVAC, RTUs, and chiller equipment as well as maintain the engine room and boiler equipment for the plant.

     

    Experience with ammonia and HVAC certifications are a plus and recommended.

     

    This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

     

    SHIFT- Nights 2-2-3 6PM-6AM

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Maintains engine room and boiler equipment.

    2. Monitors and charts all freezer and cooler temps.

    3. Runs daily boiler water test.

    4. Maintains and PMs all air conditioning and ventilation equipment.

    5. Maintains and PMs chiller equipment.

    6. Maintains boilers and all related equipment.

    7. Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.

    8. Adheres to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.

    9. Able to work overtime and holidays when needed.

    10. Insures regulatory compliance at all times.

    11. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

    1. One-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

    2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    4. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.

    5. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

    6. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

    7. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    8. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    9. Must possess good mechanical and electrical skills.

    10. Ability to communicate effectively.

    11. Must to able to work with minimal supervision.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Capable of safely lifting 75 lbs. on occasion.

    2. Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments.

    3. Able to wear and use required respiratory protective devices. (SCBA)
