    Histology TechnologistJob Description

     

    The histotechnician will perform all routine and special paraffin histotechnology duties in a state-of-the-art CAP-certified pathology laboratory. Under the guidance of a Supervisor or Lead Histotechnologist, you will provide high-quality diagnostic material within established turn-around-times.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform cutting, staining, and other tasks required to process tissue in the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory.

    + Conduct accurate gross descriptions on tissue samples.

    + Perform quality control procedures established for each method and maintain accurate records.

    + Operate all instruments and equipment according to accepted written procedures, recognizing and identifying instrument/equipment problems.

    + Meet acceptable turnaround time and productivity standards for the section.

    + Recognize testing errors, discrepancies, or problems and notify appropriate personnel while assisting in problem resolution.

    + Record, transcribe, and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol.

    + Assist other personnel with identifying and analyzing inconsistent and abnormal results.

    + Review accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing.

    + Complete routine and STAT testing within acceptable turn-around time guidelines.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in histology, including microtomy, embedding, cutting, and routine special staining techniques.

    + Experience in pathology and immunohistochemistry.

    + Ability to operate laboratory equipment and recognize equipment issues.

    + Skills in maintaining accurate records and performing quality control procedures.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Associate degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or related life science.

    + Formal training in Histology from an accredited program.

    + Meets CLIA personnel standard criteria.

    + 2-4 years of experience in the field.

    Work Environment

    The work schedule is from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The organization offers internal growth and training opportunities, as well as the possibility for transfers across the entire organization.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $45.00/hr.
