The Liao Group in the Department of Computer Science at the New York University (NYU) Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences is seeking an expression of interest from talented, highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to explore interpretable machine learning approaches to addressing fundamental questions in evolution of RNA biology. We are recruiting candidates with a proven track record in experimental biology to integrate domain knowledge into machine learning frameworks and experimentally validate model predictions. Experience with Drosophila model systems or RNA biology is of particular interest. Qualified candidates must also have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first-author paper published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Fellow will work on the following projects:
1. Developing "modern" massively parallel reporter assays for splicing in cultured Drosophila systems.
2. Preliminary reporter data generation in S2 embryonic cell line
3. Exploring different Drosophila cell lines to consider comparative approaches, focusing on
(A) sex differences (male vs female splicing),
(B) developmental regulation (different developmental cell types in same genetic background), or
(C) Comparative species context (different embryonic species)
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 to $74,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer quality, as well as market and organization considerations and the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Required Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
+ Ability to conduct high-level research with minimal supervision.
+ Proficiency with Drosophila literature and methods.
+ Basic molecular biology skills (PCR, cloning, library sequencing).
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate cross-functionally to diverse audiences.
Desired Qualifications:
+ Experience with RNA and/or portein microscopy and image processing.
+ Ability to present/visualize outputs to multidisciplinary audience.
+ Programming skills with proficiency in Python, Java, and/or R.
