Job Description:
Utilizes advanced health assessment, knowledge, and decision making skills, works independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals. Provides health care to individuals and families, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. They may care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly as noted in age-related category and area of expertise.

Our Detroit Lakes team is seeking a mental health practitioner to join them in serving our patient populations throughout the lakes area. The Psychiatry NP will be responsible for providing and supporting behavioral health care services to individual patients and families across the continuum of care. Find support and resources from our professional, patient-focused and compassionate Behavioral Health group that includes physicians, advanced practice clinicians and dedicated support staff. This highly-respected team (along with a growing practice and great facilities to work within) provide the ideal setting for candidates seeking a strong support system. Join the Detroit Lakes Behavioral Health Department, which includes 2 Psychiatrists, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 3 Psychologists, and 2 Psychotherapists.
+ 1.0 FTE, Monday-Friday during business hours
+ Collaborate with the growing Behavioral Health provider team of more than 25 providers across the West Market to provide quality, accessible care to patients
+ Provide adult psychiatry services (age 18+) in an outpatient clinic setting (may see younger if trained to do so)
+ Primary practice includes seeing patients in the clinic setting, or through virtual visits or tele-health
+ As scheduled during business hours, provide in-person or tele-health consults to inpatients and emergency room patients
+ Outreach to other Essentia Health clinics within daytime driving distance
+ Appointment Template Options: New Patients 40-60 minutes. Medication Rechecks 20-30 minutes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Mental Requirements:
Advanced practice psychiatric-mental health nurse is limited to the provision of primary mental health care services to those at risk for mental disorders or presently in need of psychiatric-mental health services.
+ Designing and conducting mental illness preventive interventions.
+ Conducting individual psychotherapy, or family, group and network therapies as needed.
+ Conducting health screening and psychiatric evaluation.
+ Prescribing, monitoring, managing, and evaluating psychopharmacological and related medications.
+ Providing integrated mental health services in general health settings.
+ Collaborating with psychiatrists, seeking consultation when necessary and referring patients to other providers (physicians or nurse practitioners in other specialties) when the patient’s physical or mental health condition requires it.
+ Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to promote behavioral health services on the continuum of care.
_In addition, the candidate should possess:_
+ Highly developed analytical critical thinking and/or organizational skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Proven ability to build effective working relationships and use tact, discretion and diplomacy when working with others.
+ Demonstrates ability to stay calm and focused in environment of multiple demands and uses good judgment in emergency situations.
+ Keyboard skills and basic computer skills.
Education:
+ Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution that followed a specialty track in Mental Health and is certified by a professional nursing organization to exercise advanced nursing competencies including (a) mental health promotion and (b) the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.
Licensure/Certifications:
+ Current licensure as a registered nurse in appropriate state.
+ State licensure as either an Adult or Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist with graduate coursework in:
+ Advanced health assessment (to include both physical and mental health).
+ Pathophysiology (or neurophysiology/biophysiology).
+ Pharmacology and/or psychopharmacology (both preferred).
+ Diagnosis and medication management of psychiatric illness (clinical practicum); AND have supervised clinical training at the graduate or post-graduate level
+ Current certification in CPR.
+ National certification, in applicable area.
+ Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice.

+ Centrally located in the heart of the Lakes Area
+ 1 hour from Fargo and 3 hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul
+ Detroit Lakes population: 8,100
+ Regional Service area consists of 5 clinics & 1 hospital
Hired candidates may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, quality incentives or production-based compensation.
