Our client in San Diego, CA is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to join their team. This critical position focuses on analyzing payroll data, ensuring compliance, and optimizing payroll processes.

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for managing and analyzing payroll data to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This role will focus on preparing payroll reports, identifying variances, and ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, advanced proficiency in payroll systems, and a customer-service-focused approach to their work.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Review and process payroll data accurately for employees, including hourly, salaried, and commissioned staff.

+ Prepare detailed payroll reports and analyze trends and discrepancies for resolution.

+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and labor laws.

+ Manage payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits contributions, and other adjustments.

+ Collaborate with the accounting department to reconcile payroll expenses and liabilities.

+ Assist in audits by compiling payroll-related documentation and analyzing data.

+ Continuously evaluate payroll practices to recommend efficiency improvements and cost-saving measures.

+ Respond swiftly and professionally to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues.

Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.

+ 2+ years of payroll experience, ideally in a medium-to-large organization.

+ Proficiency in payroll software such as ADP, Workday, Paylocity, or Ceridian. Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP).

+ Familiarity with payroll regulations, tax compliance, and labor laws.

+ Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.

+ Experience with multi-state payroll processing or international payroll regulations.

+ Understanding of accounting practices related to payroll, such as journal entries and reconciliations.
