    Work Location: Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Berntzen Rd. and other possible Recreation locations throughout City of Eugene as business needs.

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. with flexibility per business need. May include an occasional evening or weekend.

    Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following

     

    + Assists with the implementation of assigned day-to-day recreation program activities. Participates in long range planning and development for recreation programs and events; assists with the development of specific recreation activities and provides suggestions and creative input; and assists with program evaluations.

    + Assisting in the marketing of activities and programs which may include designing flyers and using social media to promote interest and enthusiasm in recreation activities at Petersen Barn.

    + Schedules recreation classes and program activities at Petersen Barn Community Center. Responsible for providing an activity setting that promotes and encourages inclusion, positive development, and engagement of all participants.

    + Support early learning, afterschool and summer camp program and leaders as needed. Will include providing training to staff on current practices, policies and procedures within a team structure.

    + Backup for front desk activities, afterschool, summer camp, and early learning programs as needed.

    + Drive various vehicles, including a 15 passenger van, to transport participants and equipment between sites.

    + Participates and provides input in hiring processes and performance evaluations.

    + Respond to emergencies as required, administering first-aid and CPR, and contacting emergency medical authorities immediately.

    + Order program supplies, maintains inventory, and monitors expenses for assigned programs.

    + Participate in maintaining facilities.

    + Work harmoniously and effectively with various and diverse groups of people including students, their families, school personnel, staff and the public.

    + Performs related and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience

    Three years’ experience in recreation programs or closely related. Preference in experience serving youth or families.

    Education

    Associate degree in recreation or a related field

     

    Certifications

     

    First Aid, CPR certifications or ability to acquire within 30 days.

     

    Background

     

    Must pass a background check.

    License

    Valid Oregon driver's license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).

     

    Supplemental Information

     

    Bilingual Pay Benefit

     

    Per the AFSCME contract (https://www.eugene-or.gov/Archive.aspx?AMID=71) , the City shall pay an employee an additional 5% for a required intermediate or advanced level competency. To qualify for bilingual pay, the employee must have demonstrated fluency in the required language and successfully pass a fluency examination administered by the City's Employee Resource Center division.

     

    What to Expect from our Selection Process

     

    Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required. Some positions also require applicants to have a psychological evaluation and/or physical examination and a drug test prior to employment. Marijuana use is evaluated consistent with current state law regulations. PLEASE NOTE: Once the posting closes, the process can take 4-6 weeks to complete.

    Representation

    The normal starting salary is the first step shown on the posting. Other placement in the salary range may be considered depending on qualifications and experience. Periodic advancement through the salary range is dependent upon merit. The City provides a full range of benefits, including holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement benefit, and life insurance.
