    Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is for a Police Officer, Position Description Number D2155000 located at 165th Security Forces Squadron in Garden City, GA. This is a full-time, Excepted, dual status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open to all Active Duty Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members within the state of Georgia. Responsibilities As a Police Officer, GS-0083-06, you will: Perform and enforce the full range of security forces duties within the military installation. Apprehend and detain violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to the Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest and/or posting of collateral. Serve at fixed posts or patrols the installation on foot or in vehicles; respond to alarms, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances. Respond to calls for emergency assistance to include active shooter, suspicious persons, catastrophic events, scenes of crimes/natural disasters and enemy attacks, and make apprehensions. Incumbent is required to perform specialized techniques, methods, and procedures to execute search and apprehension; counter terrorist operations; or counter violence posing a threat to public safety. As directed, acts as the on-scene commander for significant and catastrophic events. Perform traffic duty to include directing traffic and escorting dignitaries. Incumbent enforces pertinent administrative rules and regulations governing traffic control, parking, building, or other facility access, and breaches in physical security controls (locks, fences, gates, or other barriers). When enforcing rules and regulations established to accomplish the protective missions, security forces personnel control the movement of persons and protect lives and personal property in and around the identified Federal property. The incumbent carries out related duties such as, escorting persons and valuables; driving emergency vehicles; detecting and reporting potential fire and accident hazards; making preliminary checks of violations; and, preparing reports of incidents or security conditions. Serve as a Security Forces Dispatcher for the installation. Dispatch personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations. Monitor the locations of all posts, alarm systems, closed circuit television systems and telephone/radio networks. As required, coordinate with civilian police, fire, rescue and emergency units for assistance. Use computerized information systems to direct patrols, record daily blotter information, and retrieve information through the FBI's National Crime Information Center System. Use knowledge of the Security Forces Management Information Systems (SFMIS) to retrieve information and complete reports on the systems. Receive, record, and secure confiscated items and evidence. Assure witness statements are properly secured. Keep reports and complaint records. Prepare shift activity reports. Interview witnesses and suspects to obtain and verify information. Advise suspects of their rights. Receive and record radio, telephone, and personal messages and instructions involving emergencies, complaints, violations, accidents, and requests for information and assistance. Transmit messages and instructions to officers on patrol and dispatch officers to investigate complaints and assist in emergencies. Interpret directives and instructions and answers general inquiries. Maintain records and prepare reports covering activities and events occurring over the course of a shift. Perform the full range of Base Entry Controller and commercial vehicle inspection duties. Ensure individuals requesting access to the installation have the proper identification credentials before entering. Conduct random vehicle searches at the privately owned vehicle (POV) gates and conduct thorough searches of all vehicles at commercial gate. Perform random antiterrorism measures in accordance with applicable instructions. Perform over-watch duties as required by force protection conditions. Responsible for issuing base entry passes (individual and vehicle), and conducting background checks on contractors. Operate vehicle arresting barriers as necessary. Perform the full range of duties for defending protection level resources (Patrol, Security Response Team (I-SRT & E-SRT). Defend installation personnel, equipment, and resources from hostile ground attack. Participate in tactical defense postures as a member of a quick reaction force to deny infiltration or attack. Verify credentials to ensure only authorized personnel, vehicles, and equipment items are permitted in these areas and validate each person's need to access the area. Ensure visitors are informed of applicable security requirements. Operate, monitor, and assess sensor systems for the area. Respond to all area alarms and make required notifications. Assess the origin and cause of intrusion detection system (IDS) alarms in the area and make required notifications. Implement compensatory measures if all, or part of, the IDS is inoperable and complete documentation required in accordance with IDS operational and maintenance procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. General Experience: Candidate must possess experience includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. Specialized Experience: Candidate must have at least 12 months experience at the next lower level that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. This experience must be 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of the position to be filled. Education Substitution of Education for specialized experience: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position, meets the GS-5 level requirements. Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience.
