Responsibilities:
The Lead Research Specialist will be responsible for advancing the research enterprise in the McGrath lab by conducting advanced laboratory and computational methods, mentoring trainees, coordinating with staff, and developing new initiatives. The Specialist will be asked to develop parts of or entire proposals and work with administrative staff to submit proposals and manage sponsored research. The Specialist will also be required to represent the work of McGrath lab at conferences, workshops, and seminars – often in place of Dr. McGrath.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Research leadership: Lead the laboratory in the development of automated imaging systems for tissue-on-chip measurements related to immune cell trafficking and vascular responses to inflammation. Responsible for all aspects of project execution: computational tool development, system integration, biological design and experimental execution. Will also coordinate project collaborating teams
+ Research proposal writing and reporting. Prepares written reports and presentations on ongoing projects in the assigned lab related to microphysiological systems. including statistical analysis of all results to be used in the publication of articles.
+ Mentoring. Will serve as mentor to pre-doctoral trainees at all levels (PhD, MS, undergraduate). Duties include reviewing data, papers, presentations, troubleshooting and designing experiments, assisting with experimental efforts, writing, publishing etc.
+ Presentations and travel. Represent the laboratory at local and outside conferences and meetings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Master's degree
+ PhD preferred
+ 5 years involving direct assistance to researchers
+ Or combination of education and experience
+ experience as a post-doctoral fellow preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Advanced scientific communication.
+ Advanced computation and experimental skill sets related to tissue on chip studies.
