PeaceHealth is seeking a Risk Management & Safety Specialist for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $39.12 – $58.70. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
Plays a key role in advancing a culture of safety by serving as subject matter expert on the use of the software system used to support the Clinical Excellence division and providing front line, operational leaders, providers and clinical excellence team members in using the system efficiently and effectively and supporting the intake, triage, and analysis of all variance (incident) and feedback reports. This position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate review of reported events, identifying potential safety risks, and collaborating with clinical and operational teams to support risk mitigation. The specialist will also lead the development and maintenance of standard work and workflows for the variance reporting system to ensure consistency, usability, and compliance with regulatory standards for clinical risk management/patient safety functionality.
Essential Functions
+ Serves as the initial reviewer for all incoming variance reports and feedback files. Triages reports based on severity, urgency, potential risk to patients or staff, regulatory, potential and/or potentially compensable event. Escalates high-risk events to appropriate leadership and initiates preliminary investigations as needed. Ensures timely documentation and follow-up of events in the reporting system.
+ Ensures accurate classification and coding of events using standardize safety event classification taxonomy. Maintains data integrity and consistency across the reporting system.
+ Designs, implements, and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows for the variance reporting system. Collaborates with clinical analytics, clinical leaders, and frontline staff to optimize system usability and data integrity.
+ Serves as subject matter resource for the variance and feedback reporting application, provides training to frontline users and managers. Provides training and support to staff on proper use of the reporting system and adherence to standard work.
+ Monitors trends and patterns in reported events to identify emerging risks or system vulnerabilities. Generates regular reports and dashboards for risk management and patient safety teams.
+ Partners with clinical departments, quality teams, and risk management to support safety initiatives. Educates staff on the importance of relevant reporting and how it contributes to organizational learning and improvement.
+ Participates in performance improvement activities by identifying opportunities to improve the event and feedback reporting process. Facilitates initiatives to enhance accuracy and utility of relevant data.
+ Uses adult learning principles and effective presentation skills to guide individual coaching and group training on basic functionality and use of all modules of the clinical risk management software and advanced knowledge of the variance module.
+ Actively listens to users for opportunities for enhancements and/or efficiencies with the standard processes or software functionality and shares to continually optimize the application.

Qualifications
Education
+ Associate Degree Required: in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. and
+ Bachelor's Degree Preferred: in nursing, healthcare administration or related field
Experience
+ Minimum of 3 years Required: Experience working in a nursing-related, technical or administrative clinical setting that provides basic understanding of patient care issues. and
+ Preferred: Experience with medical records and
+ Preferred: Staff development / instructor experience

Skills
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize and make decision with minimal supervision regarding routine matters while efficiently forwarding priority issues for action/response, written or verbal instructions.
+ Advanced ability utilizing MS office suite, specifically Outlook, Excel and Word.
+ Database usage skills.
+ Strong analytical skill set.
+ Strong communication skills, proficiency in effective written and verbal communications and adapting communication skills to the audience.
+ Ability to prioritize work projects, independently manage duties and resolve conflicting deadlines.
