Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and recommending workflow improvements. The position is vital in ensuring efficient specimen collection and processing.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
+ Record maintenance data and ensure decontamination procedures are followed.
+ Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand and comply with physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label specimens as required.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature guidelines.
+ Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment if required.
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Knowledge of different gauges and phlebotomy techniques.
+ Ability to accurately enter data into various EMR systems.
+ Excellent customer service skills due to a high volume of patients.
Work Environment
The work environment is fast-paced, with the facility handling over 100 patients daily. The position operates Monday to Friday, from 7 AM to 4 PM, with every other Saturday from 7 AM to 11 AM. The work environment is structured and requires adherence to safety protocols and procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
