Under the direction of the Engineering Director, the Structural Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, and certification support of aircraft structures, modifications, and components. This role ensures that structural designs meet regulatory standards, company specifications, and customer requirements while supporting safe, efficient, and cost-effective engineering solutions. The position works closely with project managers, certification specialists, and manufacturing teams to deliver accurate and compliant engineering packages that support L2 Aviation’s programs. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS · Perform structural analysis of aircraft components, assemblies, and modifications using hand calculations and finite element methods. · Develop engineering drawings, repair instructions, and structural substantiation reports to support FAA/EASA certification. · Support the design, testing, and validation of structural modifications including avionics installations, equipment mounts, and airframe reinforcements. · Review and approve structural engineering work to ensure compliance with AS9100, FAA Part 25, and other applicable regulatory requirements. · Collaborate with design engineers, DERs, DMIRs, and project managers to ensure accurate and timely completion of projects. · Provide engineering support for manufacturing and installation, including resolving discrepancies and providing technical guidance. · Generate bills of materials (BOM) and coordinate with procurement for structural components. · Participate in design reviews, conformity inspections, and compliance audits. · Maintain detailed engineering documentation, records, and revision control. · Support continuous improvement initiatives in structural analysis and design processes. · Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES · Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (required). · Minimum 3–5 years of experience in structural engineering within the aerospace industry. · Proficiency in structural analysis methods, including finite element analysis (FEA) and industry-standard software (e.g., NASTRAN, ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation). · Strong knowledge of FAA/EASA certification processes, including FAR Part 25 structural requirements. · Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality standards and aerospace material properties. · Strong technical writing skills for engineering reports and certification documentation. · Excellent problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail. · Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. · Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. · Ability to travel, infrequently, on short notice for prototype aircraft and aircraft surveys. · Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward DER delegation preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT · Office-based with regular collaboration across engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams. · Occasional travel to suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies. · Periodic presence in hangar or production environments during installations or inspections.
