    Position Description

We seek individuals with a demonstrated record of excellence in classroom instruction. This hire will play an essential role in supporting and growing the Geology Minor program that is offered by the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.

     

    Instructional faculty appointments are reserved for individuals who make a unique contribution to Texas State University’s mission by dedicating their time and expertise to teaching, learning, and instructional activities that complement and enhance the goals of students, academic units, and the university. Instructional faculty appointments at Texas State University are promotion-eligible and are made for a specific term, not to exceed five years, pending successful annual reviews and recommendations to reappoint, renewable annually.

    Required Qualifications

    + Ph.D. in Geology, Geosciences, or a closely aligned Earth Systems Science (geosphere) field.

    + A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

    + Demonstrated ability to teach geology courses includingIntroduction to Geology, Historical Geology, and Sedimentation and Stratigraphy.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Demonstrated or potential ability to teachHydrogeologyand other upper-division geology courses (please check theonline catalog (https://mycatalog.txstate.edu/courses/geol/) for a full list of the geology courses we offer).

    + Demonstrated ability to supervise graduate teaching assistants and coordinate the teaching of geology laboratories.

    + Demonstrated ability to teachFundamentals of GIS .

    The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Texas State University has 35 full-time faculty members, over 470 undergraduate majors, and over 150 graduate students in our Master’s and PhD degree programs. As one of the six minor programs offered by the Department, the geology program regularly has around 160 students.
