    Job Title: Electrical Engineering Forensic Scientist

     

    Reports to: Quality Engineering Manager

     

    Department: Engineering

     

    Work Model: Full-time, On-site – No Travel Required

     

    Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

    Job Summary:

    The primary responsibility for this position will be the investigation of root cause failures of COTS and custom components for improving Crystal Group reliability, availability, and profitability.

    Essential Functions

    + Investigate failure mechanisms on server class military and industrial platforms.

    + Coordinate external laboratory work (X-Ray, SEM, Laser Diffraction, Photomicroscopy, etc.), as well as internal component failure analyses.

    + Use standard electrical test equipment including high-speed oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, current probes, thermal probes, and general circuit troubleshooting.

    + Lead customer RCCA responses and authoring documentation to support resolution of field failure investigations

    + Data collection for infant mortality, component recommendation, and yield trends in production

    + Data mining for product returns including analysis of use conditions, recommendations to the engineering team for reliability enhancements, and general reliability calculations based on field data

    + Comply with safety, quality, and ESD guidelines.

    + Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    + Must be able to sit, stand and bend at various times while lifting and reviewing the computer hardware items.

    + Strong knowledge of troubleshooting COTS and non-COTS electronic devices.

    + Able to read and interpret complex electrical / electronic schematic diagrams.

    + Institute design improvements based on investigation(s) findings.

    + Ability to solder / desolder printed circuit board components.

    + Communicate investigation findings with the end customer.

    + Ability to inspect products and effectively use the computer on a daily basis is needed

    + Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (Altium Designer, AutoDesk Inventor, AutoCAD)

    Required Qualification

    + Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or five years of equivalent experience

     

    Preferred Qualification

     

    + Ten or more years of experience in related electrical industry dealing with component failures

    + Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
