The Play & Language Lab (https://wp.nyu.edu/catherinetamislemonda/) at New York University, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, directed by Catherine S. Tamis-LeMonda, invites applications for a full-time Project Coordinator position beginning November 1, 2025. Tamis-LeMonda and Dr. Karen Adolph are co-principal investigators of the NSF project and will co-supervise the coordinator.

The Project Coordinator will oversee research on toddlers' math-related language interactions and the physical home environment, with the collection of data on toddlers' speech exposure, language skills, and spatial and number cognition. This NSF-funded project involves video recordnigs of mother-toddler interactions during natural home activities, conducting of 3D video renderings of the physical home environment, video recordings of dyads during structured play, and assessments of toddlers' language skills and math cognition.

Home visits will be conducted with 200+ mothers with toddlers aged 18 to 30 months. Videos of toddler-mother natural and structured activities will be transcribed and annotated for math-relevant language and activities. Assessments of toddlers' math cognition will be coded for child performance on spatial and numeracy tasks. Home video tours and 3D video renderings will be used to annotate the math-relevant objects accessible to toddlers. Interviews with mothers will provide data on infant recewptive and expressive vocabulary, home math activities, and family demographics.

Research responsibilities include recruiting families, preparation of protocols, piloting, video-recordings in the home environment, video-based behavior annotation and transcription, training of hourly staff to assist in home visits, quality assurance on all data, tracking and sharing of data in the video repository of Databrary. Administrative duties include purchasing research supplies, interviewing and hiring hourly staff, assistance with grant management, and general support to the PIs on the project. Salary is commensurate with experience.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $52,000-$58,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully in person.

This position is expected to supervise 5 undergraduate researchers.

Applicant must have strong research background including experience working with families and infants/toddlers or children in research (including participant recruitment, data collection, video annotation, and transcription). Qualifications include a BA/BS or MA/MS in psychology or a related field and experience working in a research setting (developmental psychology preferred). The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, exceptional organizational skillls, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Individuals with knowledge of early language and behavioral development; previous experience with Datavyu behavioral annotation and transcription software; experience in conducting studies with children and families (ideally with a focus on infants and toddlers), and experience in data curation, data visualization, R and other analyses, and preparation of talks in Keynote or Powerpoint are preferred.
