Plant Health Intern

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

+ Work alongside scientists in both controlled environment phenotyping and molecular disease diagnostics to support the breeding plant health team;

+ Complete independent studies in-plantae to further knowledge of pathogen biology;

+ Identify, develop, and implement experiments to investigate pathogen diversity both genetically and phenotypically;

+ Synthesize and communicate results in a timely and organized manner to project team and key stakeholders;

+ Using prior experience and consultations with other team members, solve technical and operations challenges in order to complete experiments on time;

+ Achieve commitment to safety and compliance, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

+ Pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in plant pathology, microbiology, or related plant science field;

+ Experience with culturing and identifying microbes, particularly fungi;

+ Self-motivated and takes initiative to meet goals with minimal supervision;

+ Demonstrates ability to drive projects independently and manage time effectively;

+ Willingness and ability to relocate for the 12-week internship in Chesterfield, MO;

+ Ability to work with and care for plants in greenhouse and growth chamber environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Controlled environment plant care experience;

+ Experience with molecular biology techniques such as amplification and sequencing.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $22.10 to $29.40. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
