    Description

    The Senior Department Chair (SDC) will oversee the hiring and day-to-day management of faculty and Department Chairs in their given department in the Global Online Leadership College, as well as their appointment to courses and performance evaluations. This oversight includes adjudicating faculty grievances/issues and student academic complaints arising from their department; developing course schedules and rotation schedules for courses in their department, as well as monitoring course enrollments; and ensuring that all Academic Affairs’ policies are consistently implemented in the department. This position will also be responsible for recommending course developments and redevelopments to the Dean of Online and Professional Development Programming, as well as working with other GOLC personnel to identify areas of training needs to enhance student success and retention. The SDC will also work with their Dean and the Vice President of Online Academics to grow enrollments in the degree programs in their department. The SDC is required to attend all in-person training and faculty meetings as required by the GOLC, as well as attend all graduation ceremonies as deemed appropriate by the Vice President of Online Academics and Senior Vice President of the Global Online Leadership College. This position will teach at least 50% of a normal faculty contract load for each of the four academic terms and will be eligible to teach up to six quarter hours per term as an adjunct. This is a remote work position.

    Primary Responsibility:

    + Manages the day-to-day academic operations of the department including the hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty, evaluation of those faculty, and training of those faculty in conjunction with relevant personnel.

    + Recommend courses to be places on the Office of Online Education Development term schedule as needed and approved.

    + Attends all Chair Council meetings, GOLC faculty workshops, all called faculty meetings and workshops, graduation ceremonies, and other events deemed appropriate by the Vice President of Online Academics and Senior Vice President of the GOLC.

    + Serve as the department point on contact for Faculty Grievances/Issues and Student academic-related complaints; Elevate these to the supervising Dean as appropriate.

    + Teach at least two classes in each of the four academic terms (with the possibility of adjunct or course development work each term including summer). This position may substitute teaching for course development or SME work in OOED if the need arises with the approval of the supervising Dean.

    + Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

    *Criminal background check and drug screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

    Qualifications

    Education

    Required: Master's degree in related field

     

    Preferred: Ph.D./Ed.D.

    Experience

    Required: 5 years of full-time higher education teaching experience with at least three years teaching in an online environment

     

    Preferred: 5+ years of full-time higher education teaching AND higher education administration experience in an Academic Affairs setting (e.g., Department Chair, Division Chair, etc.)

     

    Skills

     

    Required: Demonstrated knowledge of commonly accepted policies and procedures in academia. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills. Attention to detail and familiarity with online teaching and learning platforms, LMS, and related technology.

     

    Preferred: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Course development or SME experience as it relates to building online courses for delivery.
