Job Summary
Performs the less difficult tasks of telecommunication engineering support work to design,maintain, and operate telecommunication systems and facilities for the protection, control, operation, and maintenance of the TVA power system. Systems and facilities may include microwave, land and satellite data, paging and mobile radio, fiber optics, SCADA, EMS, telephony, power line carrier, local area networks, wide area networks, and digital transmission systems. The incumbent is responsible for the performance of progressively more challenging duties in design development, layout and wiring, installation, operations, maintenance, rehabilitation and testing of communication and electrical equipment and systems. May assist in the duties of analyzing system needs, validating user requirements, selecting most appropriate system/equipment, and system configuration and integration. Carries out duties in a manner that assures that engineering design and maintenance costs and schedule performance goals are met. Applies system-wide best practice replication and standards.
May assist with engineering studies or parts of engineering studies, technician design work on projects and the resolution of initial installation testing and operation and maintenance problems for equipment and systems.
When assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and the maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak demand periods.
Supervision Received
At the entry level, the incumbent will receive close supervision with precedents provided for other than standard tasks. The incumbent will be expected to progress to enable independent performance on routine assignments. Supervision may be provided by a supervising technician, engineer or a first-line manager.

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
A two year technical degree in Telecommunications Technology or related field, or equivalent related education, training and experience.
