    Overview

     

    Dartmouth Hitchcock Department of Surgery is seeking an experienced Ph.D. level Statistician to enhance our research endeavors to design, conduct, and analyze scientific studies. The successful candidate will conduct patient centered research utilizing large national datasets including Medicare, electronic medical records, external data warehouses and large community based clinical cohorts. Working with our group offers the opportunity to be involved in the process of improving perioperative treatment in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics, regional anesthesia and neurocritical care.

    Responsibilities

    * Works with clinician researchers to develop hypotheses and design projects including patient and provider surveys, patient centered outcomes, studies of efficacy and cost including projects to solve health system and community based research questions.

    * Mentors new investigators and trainees to develop hypotheses.

    * Designs and conducts rigorous statistical analysis in collaboration with clinical colleagues, primarily for observational studies using electronic health record (EHR) data in concert with our outcomes database.

    * Performs exploratory analyses, data analyses, and visualizations helping to summarize our research.

    * Extracts, cleans and validates data for analysis, beginning with raw data from the EHR.

    * Collaborates with a wide range of clinicians, research scientists and bioinformatics colleagues to design and execute analyses.

    * Provides statistical methodological support for proposed and ongoing clinical trials.

    * Assists in publishing and presenting our research findings, approaches, and methodologies.

    * Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    * Ph.D. degree in biostatistics required.

    * Minimum of 5 years of experience working in clinical/translational research related to population health, outcomes research or generalizable patient care.

    * Requires strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication.

    * Technical skills to include programming in SAS and R, position will include power and sample size calculations, data cleaning and merging of datasets, as well as analysis (descriptive statistics and modeling).

    * Ability to work independently or guide the design, programming and analysis stages of a research project as needed.

    * Experienced in manuscript development including drafting statistical methods sections.

    * Possess MS Office skills and be comfortable and willing to create charts and tables to present data.

    * Demonstrated publication record and preparation of grant applications.

    * Faculty appointment anticipated at the Assistant Professor level or higher based on publications and academic qualifications.
