Job Description:

Summary

This position will join the Information Technology Services (ITS) Information Security Team's on-call rotation to receive, analyze, and respond to security alerts from our intrusion detection systems. This position will be responsible for handling security incidents when they are reported or discovered. The incumbent in this role will also be performing infrastructure vulnerability assessments and working with stakeholders in other departments to remediate critical computer security issues. This position will create and publish hardening guidelines for new devices added to our campus network.

Example of Duties • Research attempted or successful efforts to compromise systems security and design countermeasures.• Maintains hardware, software, and network firewalls and encryption protocols.• Conducts accurate evaluation of the level of security required.• Assists with monitoring, evaluating, and mitigating network security threats.• Performs security control scripting, assessment, and analysis.

ITS provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty and staff of Iowa State University. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU's academic and business units.

The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver with good communication skills and be technically minded with the ability to work in collaboration with both campus technology professionals and end users.

Level Guidelines• Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher-level workers as appropriate• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity• May provide guidance to students
